GW Pharmaceuticals to Develop Oncology Portfolio After Cannabis Medication Shows Promising Results

GW Pharmaceuticals is hoping to develop a treatment for cancer after announcing promising results from an early stage study looking at how its cannabis-based molecules can help patients with the disease.

The trial tested how safe and effective two of GW's cannabis-derived molecules were in 21 patients suffering from glioblastoma multiforme (GBM), an aggressive type of brain tumour.

The results showed that patients treated with GW's drug, in combination with temozolomide, which is the current medication used to treat GBM, had an 83pc one-year survival rate, compared with 53pc for patients in the placebo cohort.

The combination therapy increased median survival to more than 550 days, compared with 369 days for those on the placebo.

US: Why Investing in Cannabis Stocks Will Be So Profitable in 2017

Investing in cannabis stocks is being called the "gold rush" of the 21st century. That's because legal marijuana sales in North America climbed to $6.7 billion in 2016.

As impressive as that sounds, sales are only expected to climb…
By 2021, legal marijuana sales in North America are expected to reach $20.2 billion. That's a sales increase of 201% in just four years.

While investing in marijuana stocks can be profitable, it's important to understand they are speculative investments right now.
That's because marijuana is still illegal under U.S. federal law.

However, with 28 states having some type of marijuana legalization law in place, medical legalization will become the norm.

UK Cannabis Campaigner: I'll Carry on Breaking the Law Until Drug Is Legalised

A CAMPAIGNER battling to legalise cannabis to combat her painful disease landed in court after warning police of her unlawful behaviour.

Multiple sclerosis sufferer Michelle X tipped-off officers, emailing them to reveal she was growing 'medicinal' cannabis in her Abingdon home.

The 49-year-old, who was handed a six-month conditional discharge, told magistrates she would keep breaking the law until the class B drug is legally used to treat medical conditions in the UK.

She was also overheard confessing she was in breach of an antisocial behaviour order during a conversation with the prosecution while magistrates decided her fate.

Sentencing her on Monday, magistrates told X they had to follow 'rules which dictate us'.

Cannabis ingredient to be classed as medicine in UK

Products that contain a cannabis-based ingredient called cannabidiol, or CBD, are to be classed as medicines by the UK medicines regulator from this year.

The Medicines & Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) said it had looked at CBD because a number of manufacturing companies had been making "overt medicinal claims" about products.

Gerald Heddel, Director of Inspection and Enforcement at the agency, told Sky News: "The change really came about with us offering an opinion that CBD is in fact a medicine, and that opinion was based on the fact that we noted that people were making some quite stark claims about serious diseases that could be treated with CBD."

UK Pot Policy 'Embarrassingly' Outdated, MPs Warn

The United Kingdom is falling embarrassingly, some say even dangerously behind when it comes to its domestic drugs policy. As the United States continues its journey towards total decriminalisation of cannabis, it’s as if things in the UK have somehow got stuck in a tired and frustrating loop.

That’s the warning issued to the British government by a group of experts, who have stated in the simplest terms possible that it is absolutely imperative that change be brought about is soon as possible. The legalization of cannabis in the United Kingdom would contribute no less than £1 billion if to the British economy every year, in combined taxation and the money that would be saved on pointless criminal justice costs that continue to stack up even today.
