How to be a cannabis baron

A couple of weeks ago I posed a question: would you be willing to invest in legal cannabis?

I was trying to take the temperature.

I know, as a rule, you’re interested in money-making opportunities. And pot definitely ticks that box.

But I didn’t want to get ahead of myself, and share tonnes of research, only to find out you’re disgusted by the idea of investing in legal cannabis, and you’re planning on unsubscribing, and reporting me to the police.

I needn’t have worried. I got about seventy emails on the subject, and only one of them was against investing in pot. They’re still coming in.

So today I’m going to share a bit more with you. I’ll talk about how we got to this point, where a multi-billion pound business is about to take off overnight.

Cannabis experts produce 'High'-way Code of 10 tips to help reduce health risks

new review conducted by some of the world’s leading experts on cannabis provides 10 tips on how to reduce the potential harm of using cannabis.

The latest scientific evidence was used to draw up the Lower-Risk Cannabis Use Guidelines (LRCUG) recognising the lack of research-based advice for the millions of people who use cannabis.

1.  Recognising that there is no such thing as a risk-free drug the guidance suggests avoiding cannabis use as the only way to prevent a risk to health. Although this is logical it is impractical given the millions of people in the United Kingdom who use the drug.

UK: #Weed4Corbyn?

Whilst the shockwaves of last week’s General Election continue to rumble on, many reformers are turning their attention to what all this upheaval and uncertainty means for the future of drug policy in the UK.

It seems very safe to assume that a Conservative government, particularly one led by Theresa May, and certainly one propped up by the Democratic Unionist Party, is very unlikely to make any meaningful change to the decades-old policy of outright prohibition.

Britain Opens Its First Official Weed Research Facility for Medical Marijuana

This summer, the Uk’s first medical cannabis research facility is going to open – studying the medical uses of weed for the first time in this country.

Do they need any volunteers, we wonder?

The facility will be opened by Medipen – who tested a cannabis vaporiser with the NHS last year.

The Medipen contains ‘cannabidiol’ (CBD), a chemical from cannabis which campaigners claim helps with diseases including cancer and Crohn’s disease.

Crucially, the oil doesn’t contain any THC, the chemical in cannabis which causes the high – and it is legal in the UK.

But in the new facility – at an as-yet-undisclosed location – will explore the use of THC (the chemical in cannabis which gets you stoned) as a treatment for cancer patients.

How big is the marijuana stock opportunity in cannabidiol?

A lot of progress is being made on understanding how marijuana's chemical cannabinoids can be used as medicine, and among the most intriguing of these cannabinoids is cannabidiol, or CBD. It's one of at least 113 active cannabinoids found in marijuana, it's not responsible for marijuana's "high," and it accounts for roughly 40% of the marijuana plant's extract.

At the forefront of research into CBD's use as medicine is GW Pharmaceuticals (NASDAQ:GWPH), a U.K. drug developer that already markets a tetrahydrocannabinol (THC)-derived drug in Europe for the treatment of muscle spasms in multiple sclerosis patients.
