Is Cannabis Tourism a Cause for Concern?

As more and more places legalize and regulate cannabis, the wider implications of bringing the trade above ground have inevitably attracted scrutiny. A growth in tourism related to the drug is one such implication, and it's dividing opinion.

A Native American tribe in South Dakota, for example, has just announced its intention to legalize cannabis on tribal land (a right that the federal government has decided to grant to all Native American tribes), and its main motivation for doing so is to draw in cannabis consumers from all over the state, to generate extra revenue for those who live on the reservation.

Publication of the Sanskrit Ayurvedic texts

Unlike the dates of many early Chinese texts, the Ancient Indians were fairly proactive when it came to dating their historical records, and as a result modern scholars are fairly confident that the first known references to cannabis appear in the Atharvaveda, written in around 1,400 BCE.

Idealistic marijuana growers get suspended jail terms

A couple who grew marijuana ‘by the book’ and informed the tax office about their income have been found guilty of running an illegal plantation and given three month suspended jail sentences on appeal, news agency ANP reports on Wednesday. The middle-aged couple come from Bierum in Groningen province and have been arrested several times for marijuana production. They say that using legal electricity, paying tax and having no criminal connections show that marijuana can be grown without problems. The Netherlands turns a blind eye to the consumption of small amounts of marijuana sold through licenced coffee shops but production remains illegal.

CANNABINOID SYNGERGY: HOW CBD AND THC WORK TOGETHER

While THC and CBD have their individual benefits, combining the two creates a powerful force to be reckoned with – with each bolstering the other’s strengths.

THC, the most common cannabinoid found within cannabis, is best known for its psychoactive traits. It is these qualities that make cannabis so appealing to recreational users, and fuels the worries of anti-drug campaigners. Yet, only looking at THC in terms of its recreational qualities is merely scratching the surface. THC has been shown to have some therapeutic benefits, including reducing the onset of neuropathy, and helping those suffering from PTSD.

Lime-Hemp Groningen promising for earthquake resistant building

Groningen, The Netherlands – EcoBouwSalland, HempFlax and Sanger IBCT are studying how home insulation based on a mixture of hemp and lime hemp behaves during earthquakes. This research is supported by the NAM (Dutch Petroleum Company). Earlier tests had shown that the product has a low modulus of elasticity. This means that it gives way, instead of tearing.

The flexibility of lime is well known in the construction industry. And certainly in Groningen, where limestone mortar plays an essential role in the architecture the traditional barns, built from stone and mortar. These walls grow with time without dilatation. If crack appears, it most often closes in on itself under the influence of rain and humidity.

The cannabis experiment - Nature.com

As marijuana use becomes more acceptable, researchers are scrambling to answer key questions about the drug.

In 2013, Beau Kilmer took on a pretty audacious head count. Citizens in the state of Washington had just voted to legalize marijuana for recreational use, and the state's liquor control board, which would regulate the nascent industry, was anxious to understand how many people were using the drug — and importantly, how much they were consuming.
