Can Marijuana Worsen A Mental Illness?

Studies show a connection between mental illness and marijuana use, but it’s one that’s complex.

The use of marijuana has many scientifically proven health benefits. These can be as simple as helping users relax or as complex as managing chronic pain or stimulating appetite. There’s a lot we don’t know about marijuana, especially when discussing its negative side effects; aside from red eyes and the occasional bout of paranoia, can the use of the plant worsen conditions like mental illness?

There’s not a lot of evidence or scientific research out there, but some studies have found links between marijuana use and some mental health conditions, such as depression and even psychosis.

Ayr Wellness Inc., a multistate cannabis company, plans to buy Cultivauna LLC, a maker of cannabis-infused seltzers and water-soluble tinctures, according to a person familiar with the company’s plans.

The transaction would give Ayr, which already sells cannabis in six states, access to a fast-growing segment of the industry: drinks that contain the psychoactive ingredient in marijuana, known as THC. It would also expand the customer base for Cultivauna’s Levia brand, currently sold in Massachusetts.

A Lot Of People Are Working Out High During The Pandemic

A new survey shows how cannabis has impacted our workouts during the pandemic. Here’s the breakdown of THC and CBD users.

COVID-19 has affected a big part of our lives. Even though 2021 has been, in many ways, a return back to normal, the pandemic is still ongoing, and we’ve learned a few habits that we’ll incorporate into our new normal, including the way in which we consume our cannabis. While the pandemic clearly facilitated more weed smoking, a new study found that it also made it more common to work out while high.

Hemp waste, a new cement replacement and biofuel

emp is a cannabis sativa plant that contains only trace amounts of THC, the psychoactive ingredient typically associated with marijuana.

The market for industrial hemp, which can be used to make a wide variety of products, was estimated to be US$5 billion in 2019 and is forecast to grow to US$36 billion by 2026.

More hemp being turned into more products means more hemp waste, which is the stalk after the leaves, flower and seeds have been removed.

Link Between Cannabis Use Disorders And Schizophrenia, Study Finds

A study out of Denmark makes a strong case for cannabis use increasing the risk for developing schizophrenia, but the diagnosis itself is complex, and often overlaps with other conditions.

For thousands of years, societies across the world have used cannabis for medicinal, spiritual and social purposes. It continues to be the most used recreational drug worldwide, with the 2019 World Drug Report estimating that nearly 200 million people across the world consume it.

CBD May Offer More Benefits To Epilepsy Patients Than Previously Thought

A new study shows promising evidence that CBD can benefit patients, specifically those with epilepsy, in myriad ways.

Despite years in the medical marijuana market, many still doubt the efficacy of cannabidiol (CBD) in treating symptoms for physical and mental health conditions such as anxiety or epilepsy. But a new study published in the journal Epilepsy & Behavior indicates that epilepsy patients who used a form of artisanal CBD-based product showed “higher quality of life, lower psychiatric symptom severity, and improved sleep” than those who did not.

Delta-8, Smokable Flower Is Saving Hemp Farmers

The future looked bright for hemp farmers, but the demand for CBD didn’t follow at the expected levels.

Delta-8 and smokable flower are the two products keeping hemp framers alive. The regulatory loophole that has allowed Delta-8 to be sold legally is also causing legal confusion. Delta-8 is a cannabis product that can be derived from hemp, but still give the consumer a light psychotropic experience. Some states have issued restrictions around the product, while others haven’t addressed it at all. Either way, the demand has been a blessing to hemp farmers who planted lots of acres in 2019 expecting a surge in CBD products, only to see the market contract and prices plummet.

US sprinter Sha'Carri Richardson will be missing the Tokyo Olympics because she tested positive for marijuana during the US Track & Field trials. With cannabis legal in many states across America, why is it still outlawed in sports?

With her flowing tangerine orange hair, killer smile and lightning speed, Sha'Carri Richardson was unmissable in the lead-up to the Olympic Games.
